FRANCESCO TAMMARO
Francesco Tammaro was born in Naples, Italy in 1939. He studied at the Art Institute of Naples and is currently teaching at the Artistic High School in Sorrento. In 1979 he was added to the many other great artists who are included in the "Great Dictionary of Italian Contemporary Artists". There was an entire colored page devoted to his work. In 1980 he had the great fortune of holding a one-man exhibition in New York City and this allowed for his name to be featured in the "New York Times". Tammaro’s paintings explore busy city life. With a vast range of colors, both warm and cool, he brings each canvas to life with the hustle and bustle of crowded markets and noisy sidewalk cafes. We are allowed to travel back in time and visit the Europe of the past. Clean laundry billows over balconies while vendors anxiously peddle their goods and parasol-toting women float through the cobblestone streets. Each of these figures is precisely rendered with Tammaro’s splendid use of contrasting light and shadow. The viewer’s eyes are swept across the picture plane attracted to the brilliant application of tones. Tammaro’s distinctive style has been seen in many exhibitions in Italy and the world
