Artist’s Statement:
Margot Lennartz’s favorite subject is the California landscape which she depicts in a Contemporary Traditional style. “I enjoy a multicolor palette from which I can select quickly and with choice. I find that stimulating and exciting – it pushes me to the edge of color and allows me to make strong light statements with thick applications of paint. That works well for me in plein air as well as studio painting.”
Painting in the footsteps of the Early California Impressionists, Margot studied under students of Sam Hyde Harris and desert painters like Karl Albert. “We trekked the desert at sunrise in search of unique light conditions and compositions, and again at sunset – sometimes painting form the trunk of the car, pouring water over our t-shirts to beat the heat.”
Margot is a member of the California Art Club, Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society and International Culture and Art Association
